Life Through Music

I saw a post on What Olivia Did where she showed us her journey of music throughout her life and I thought this was such a good idea, that I wanted to do one myself. Music has played a massive part throughout my life and I forget how incredibly powerful music can be. It helps you associate memories and different aspects of my life. My music taste has altered throughout my life as well, it is so interesting how I have changed so much over the years and I wanted to make a little diary of all my previous and present music taste.

Life Through Music

Girl Band Stage

I remember being on the playground and making up routines to different girl band songs at the time. The one I remember the most is Girls Aloud- sound of the underground, we would have actions and move places and it was so professional, you wouldn’t know it was choreographed by 7/8-year-olds I promise. Also if you never made up a routine for Avril Lavigne’s Skater Boy then I am officially old and don’t want to be reminded of that. I used to collect all of these girl bands CD’s and I did get quite a collection stored up, I used to listen to steps on a Saturday morning and would always try to learn the actions- they were a tragedy. S Club 7 was my overall favourite; I was devastated when they broke up and didn’t think much off S Club Juniors, their TV series was also a big part of my childhood and I knew every song they sang and whenever a song would come on at the school disco I thought I was a pop star (which was my dream job at the time).

My school phase playlist would have to be:

  1. Reach for the stars- S Club 7

  2. Tragedy-Steps

  3. Sound of the underground- Girls Aloud

  4. Close your eyes- Atomic Kitten

Boy Musicians Stage

That teen stage was definitely preferring boy musicians-especially if they were easy on the eyes; they would include Olly Murs, Ed Sheeran, The Wanted and One Direction. I just went off female singers and was more veering towards all the boys in the charts. These were the days that I was plugging in my iPod on the bus on the way to college because I had 40 minutes to kill. I still now prefer male bands and artists to females so that hasn’t changed but I do like a mixture of female and male artists.

Pop Charts, Rock & R&B Stage

I have always been a fan of pop- but I also went for heavier music now too, I think this was because I was going clubbing more and wanted to know the latest songs that would be playing in all the clubs. I also got my friend to download some of her songs onto a memory stick so that I could get to know more bands and artists, this got me into Paramore, Muse, and Mumford and Sons.

Country Music Stage

The day I heard Love story by Taylor Swift I was converted to country music and I haven’t looked back since. This is my go-to music if I am home alone and can have full D.J responsibilities. Some of my favourites at the moment include Taylor Swift, the band perry, the shires and lady antebellum. These are the ones that made me want to find other country artist and I’m thankful for Spotify as it has introduced me to new country music artists like Devin Dawson, Thomas Rhett and Kelsea Ballerini.

Disney & Musicals

The music that I have never grown out off is musicals and Disney music. This will always have a place in my heart. I have grown up with musicals and Disney and The Sound of Music and The Lion King are the ones that I remember playing over and over again when I was little. Since then I have watched and listened to even more musicals and Disney songs and none of them disappoints. My ultimate favourite Disney film is Beauty and the Beast and dare I say it, I think the one with Emma Watson in is just as good as the original (maybe slightly better) Dan Steven’s Evermore song is my favourite- so beautiful. The musicals that I love and watched at the west end are Billy Elliott, Avenue Q, Wicked, Legally Blonde, Chicago, We Will Rock you, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Lion King and Shrek the musical.
