Habits I Want To Change In 2018

Habits- the bad ones always seem to carry on- but having ones that are going to be good for me in the long run never seem to stick. 2018 is going to be a year where I try to change these! Apparently, it takes 21 days to break a habit and can take much longer to implement new ones depending on the type of habit you want to implement. This doesn’t make it sound easy to do, huh?

I have got into so many bad habits, it’s ridiculous! 2018 is definitely a year where I change all this for the better and use my time more efficiently. It means I can be more productive and creative every day rather than just on weekends or evenings. Some of my bad habits are:

  • Looking at my phone at night, it means that I can’t get to sleep and before I know it its 2 am and I am still scrolling Twitter.
  • Going to bed at 2 am and waking up at 11 am- halve the day is gone!
  • Watching TV every evening- I could be using my time way more efficiently.
  • Not having a morning or evening routine- makes me just feel unprepared for the day in general.

Habits I Want To Change In 2018

#1 Morning Routine

I have been so lazy in the morning recently; I am gonna get a shock when I get back to work. I need to start waking up at 6 am, I really want to make my mornings more relaxed and not so stressed. Start the day as I mean to carry on. I want to stop checking my phone the first thing in the morning, that can’t be good? I would love to think that I would start up exercise, but I know myself too well and that will never happen! I just want a more relaxing start to my day. Listen to music or a podcast and just take time to eat my breakfast, put makeup on, and drink a cuppa tea.

#2 Evening Routine

I really need to start sticking to an evening routine too; I think the laziness of Christmas has definitely screwed up my body clock. I have been getting up at 11 am because I have been going to bed at 2 am in the morning- that cannot be healthy! I really want to pick up a book for 30 minutes before bed which means I need to go to bed earlier so that I sleep as soon as it hits 10 pm- I need a good 8hours sleep so that I feel fresh the next day. I also want time to pick up a skincare routine, this weather is leaving my skin feeling very dry, so I need to start looking after my face because I won’t be getting a new one any day soon.

#3 Draw Every Day

I am starting this thing where I draw something every day. It doesn’t always have to be a masterpiece- even if it is a quick 10-minute doodle in my bullet journal-that will count. I have got into this bad habit of watching TV in the evening every evening. I love a good TV show like the next person, but there is never anything I really want to watch on TV, it’s just really to stop boredom- as I am normally just reading blogs on my phone anyway. So I am going to use this extra time to do some drawing. It will be good for my mind and will help release any stress that has happened during the day.

#4 Exercise Regularly

I think I have already mentioned that I started Yoga, and I am loving it at the moment. It helps to relax you from a stressful week and gives you a chance to just be with yourself for an hour. I really want to continue this during 2018. I don’t have money for the gym as well yet, but I am going to make sure I do another two workouts at home using YouTube videos and the running bike that we have. I know exercise has physical health benefits, but the reason I want to implement this into my lifestyle is that I love the way it clears your mind. I felt so much better about myself when I did 20 minutes of exercise every day. I need those endorphins back again!


These are the habits I want to incorporate into my lifestyle right now. I just need to be extremely tired and just wake up at 6 am one morning to break the 11 am wake-up-cycle I have got myself into. Wish me luck!
