Explore With Me: Oxford
I have had a wonderful day walking around oxford with my family. Taking beautiful photographs of the buildings, landscape and nature of oxford allowed me to be able to really see the features and the beauty that this city holds. From living in London for a couple of years I have grown to love the fast-paced atmosphere that normally accommodates it. I didn't realise how much I missed city life until I went to Oxford. The shops, the restaurants and bars, attractions... there is so much that you could do here. I am definitely going to go back to see if I can have a look properly around the university, especially the one where they filmed Harry Potter.
Explore With Me To Oxford
Oxford is a city in England which has been home to royalty. It is a popular place for filmmakers some of which include Harry Potter, The Italian Job, Alice in Wonderland and Young Sherlock Holmes- that is only 4 out of the massive list I found on here. Oxford is easily commutable to London making it a popular spot for many people. When I was there, the streets were full of people even on a weekday and it was just as busy if not more than Oxford Street in London- and most people know how busy that street is! As someone who used to live in London, this was a great place to feel like you were back in the hustle and bustle of it all! It made me realise how much I miss London.
WHAT WE DID
My family and I had a day trip to Oxford to have a look around and to see the area. We went to the shopping areas, wandered around Oxford Castle, took in the fabulous architecture and had a wander around the parks. We also went to Bella Italia, an amazing Italian restaurant for lunch- one of my favourite restaurants of all time! My favourite part of this trip was looking around at the amazing buildings as oxford has “1,500 listed buildings from every major period of British architectural history from the 11th century onwards”- that’s pretty spectacular right? Although, the buildings made it difficult to navigate around the city because everything looked the same!
WHAT ATTRACTIONS ARE THERE?
As we didn’t do much planning beforehand we did not go to any attractions on this particular day but now I have found some attractions that I would definitely want to go to! Any Harry Potter fans out there? In oxford you can have a tour to see where they filmed the dining hall and the library, you have to book the tour before visiting but I think that this would be well worth going back for! There are also museums, the oxford castle, churches; and also the famous university and it's 36 colleges all of which were full of historical beauty! Unfortunately, we picked a day where the university students were graduating so we couldn’t really have a nose in the university- another reason to go back there again. There are also beautiful parks that can be explored, one of which goes down to a river that you can get onto a rowing boat or have a go at punting.
WHERE TO EAT
We walked past so many good looking food places, I wish I could’ve have tried some of the bakeries that were there, but unfortunately, my appetite had already been given to the wonderful lunch we had at Bella Italia! I would definitely make that 2-hour journey back to Oxford just for a cake- they looked amazing! There were so many restaurants with a variety of different food; I think anyone could find something to eat in Oxford- no doubt about it. Obviously, I couldn't go to every single restaurant or I wouldn't have been able to fit in the coach on the way back.
I don’t think these pictures give it justice to how beautiful this place is, but these were the photographs I got from the historical buildings that Oxford is so famous for! I am in love with the architecture of these buildings, the attention to detail was stunning and it really made this city so special.
Photography Diary of Oxford
I also took some photographs of the beautiful flowers, buildings and the scenery around oxford! If you have seen some other posts, you will know how much I love taking pictures of flowers! I love how flowers they just brighten up any place and they make me feel happy! I especially love nature in a big city because you assume that cities are just 'concrete jungles' so having plenty of greenery and plants breaks up all of that; making it even more attractive when they are up against these historic buildings!
