Forever In Our Hearts
This artwork was produced as a memory of my beloved cat who sadly past away March 2016. I wanted to make an abstract memory of him covered with actual photographs of him so that he will be remembered in our hearts for a very long time.
He was called Blackie and I got him when I was 7/8 years old. I remember telling my teacher about getting him and her advice to me was: do not let the kitten too close to your face because he might scratch it accidentally. I have remembered that moment until today! When he first came to our home, he was so timid and would not come out of his travel box. However once he did come out I would never put him down or leave him alone... poor Blackie... although I don't think he minded!
The bond that you have with your pet, as we had him for 15 years, is a special one that cannot be explained unless you have had that type of bond with an animal. He was always annoying me, trying to be the centre of attention all the time. He sat on my laptop when I was trying to write essays, he would always sleep on my book that I was trying to read and he would try to knock the phone out of your hand because I wasn't stroking him. I will never forget the day he decided it was a good idea to bring a bat into my room, nice idea Blackie, but a bat is not a present, or a pet!
Work In Progress Steps
I wanted to bring aspects of the garden into his drawing, as you can see with the leaves, because the garden was his favourite place to be. Especially in the summer when my family and I were out there as well.
I wanted to add fur details to make it a little more realistic, so I tried to make the back of his coat darker and the front of his coat lighter because Blackie had a little white spot on his chest. This drawing took me 5 hours to complet over a couple of days because I did not want to ruin it as it will be going on the wall in the dining room (which is also the room closest to the garden) so that he can be remembered in our hearts forever.
